Why we exist

Every hat funds an hour of paid work for a maker who wants it.

Latvia's pensioners live on some of the lowest incomes in the EU. Many grew up knitting — for family, out of necessity. Bebias turns that skill into steady, fairly-paid work, done from home, on their own schedule.

Launch targets — not trading figures. Bebias is a concept venture in development. Everything marked Target is what we are building toward, not a result we have achieved.

The First Collection

Seven pieces, numbered in the order they were designed. The beanies come first. The knitwear at the end is still in design — the images for those are concept renders, not photographs of finished garments, and each one says so.

How It's Made

No looms, no machines. Every hat passes through one maker's hands, start to finish, over 2–3 days.

From sketch to stitch

How we intend to finish every piece: tagged with the name of the maker who knit it. Concept render — the "Agnes" on that tag is a placeholder, not one of our makers.
01 — Sourcing

Wool & bamboo, sourced honestly

Undyed sheep's wool from small Latvian and regional farms, blended with bamboo fibre for softness against skin.

02 — Dyeing

Hand-dyed in small batches

Where colour is added, we use low-impact dyes in short runs — never a full production batch of one shade.

03 — Knitting

Knit stitch by stitch, at home

Each maker works from her own home, at her own pace, on a technique she's held for decades.

04 — Finishing

Checked, blocked, shipped

A second maker checks every piece before it's steamed into shape and posted to you.

Our Story

Hand-knitting in progress — wool, needles and finished pieces

No makers onboarded yet

We haven't onboarded our makers yet — so there's no maker to quote, and we're not going to invent one.

Who we're recruiting

Women across Latvia with decades of hand-knitting skill who want paid, flexible piecework they can do from home, on their own schedule, at a fair per-piece rate. The first cohort opens ahead of launch — if that's you, or someone you know: hello@bebias.lv.

Bebias started with a simple observation: the women most likely to have real knitting skill are often the least likely to be offered fair, flexible paid work for it. We built Bebias Latvia to close that gap — steady, fairly-paid piecework, done from home, on each maker's own schedule, for a wardrobe designed for the Baltics.

What People Say

We have not shipped an order yet, so none of these are customer reviews. Anything showing below is a leftover test entry from building this page, and is being deleted — we would rather label it plainly than leave you to work it out. Once real orders ship, reviews from buyers with a completed order carry a "Verified Customer" mark set server-side, never by hand.

Shipping, Care & Sizing

The four things you actually need to know before spending €58 on a wool hat: what shipping costs, how long it takes, whether it fits, and how to wash it without ruining it.

Free, anywhere we ship

Every hat is knitted by hand after you order it, so dispatch isn't instant. A pre-order leaves us within two working days of the hat coming off the needles, and you get a tracking number when it does.

These are our committed launch rates — what you will be charged when pre-orders ship, not an estimate we intend to revise. Nothing has shipped yet: the first parcels go out as pre-orders are fulfilled.

Materials & care

Wool, and how not to ruin it

100% natural fibre: sheep's wool from small Latvian and regional farms, blended with bamboo for softness against the skin. No synthetic content.

Wash
By hand in cool water, or a wool cycle at 30°C with wool detergent
Never
Tumble-dry, wring, or wash hot — wool felts, and it does not come back
Dry
Press the water out in a towel, reshape while damp, dry flat away from radiators
Pilling
Normal on real wool. Comb it off — it settles after a few wears

Wash it rarely. Wool clears odour on its own in a way cotton doesn't, so airing it overnight does most of the work for you.

Sizing

One size, knitted to stretch

Each hat is hand-knit in a ribbed stitch that gives against the head it's on. One size comfortably fits about 54–60 cm head circumference, with roughly 4 cm of stretch beyond that.

Measure around your head just above the ears and across the middle of your forehead — a soft tape, or a piece of string held against a ruler.

Will it fit me?

Not sure? An average adult head is roughly 55 cm (women) to 58 cm (men). Nothing you type here is sent anywhere — it stays in your browser.
